Tulip Poplar in Bloom

Yes it is technically winter but our plants and animals are confused. My black dog is shedding her winter coat. Even the tulip poplars are in full bloom. I never know what to wear from one day to the next some days it is rather cold and windy and others like today are warm enough for some people to wear shorts. I am not one of those people but I did pull out a t-shirt this morning. I was sitting outside on the back steps and watching the dogs- amazed at the beauty of this tree and the lovely smell of fresh laundry, the step still cold on my toes and the sun shining brightly as it starts setting. I ran in to get the camera so I could share the pictures but ah...the pictures are not near as lovely as the moment.

MLK DAY and Inauguration Day

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” MLK Jr. I hope today finds you warm, happy and safe. We are starting a new 4 year journey with our leaders in the US today. My finished work!

The first piece is a fiber quilt piece. It is a silk piece that is transfer dyed from ties. Then it has reverse applique techniques to create the rectangular shapes. It will be mounted under glass however, I found it is almost impossible to take a picture that way. I had difficulty naming it. I finally decided to call it My Father's Ties. The second piece is a fiber, thread, paper and encaustic mixed piece. I call it The Landing. I see an eagle in it. Mostly this piece was just about creating- something about the process of putting stitches into the work was relaxing and rhythmic.

Creativity Every Day idea suggestion Dark

Hope everyone is having a great New Year. As promised here is one of my most recent pieces of fiber art. I call it Empathy and it is around 22 X 14 stretched onto wooden bars. It is a quilted piece- meaning it has three layers -the middle being batting.
I think this piece fits the meaning of dark as I get a somber mood when looking at the work even though it has some happy colors. I feel as though it is almost a response to the recent shootings our nation has suffered. Some people instantly have great empathy for others and you can tell it when they are children. Others I think we have to work with to help teach them to be more empathetic. If you click on the image, it will open up to be larger.
