Poppy Again

Here it is today. I think this one might just get tossed aside for awhile. I can not seem to get it right. I posted the previous transitions too.

It's Hot in Here

Let me just say working with Encaustic Wax is not for summertime. It is 92 degrees outside today. To work with Encaustic wax you stand over a hotplate next to an open window and use a heat gun. I managed to make one piece last night. I wanted to have a fun collection to show today. I am also trying to take a few pieces with me on my trip to the cape. <

Still Painting.

Last night I finally got started again on these paintings. I am working to do another small poppy painting. I got one sold and mailed off to its new home. These are both still in work. This photo one looks so much better than the original painting.

Poppies! Trial and Error.

Poppies in work! Update on the van gogh poppy above. I can't decide what else to do with the poppy van gogh or my black eyed susans- so I am moving on to another poppy. You can see here the first step and second. It is still a work in progress. Acrylic 14X11 on gallery wrapped canvas.

Progressions in Paintings

Today I have been working on three different paintings. The Van Gogh copy from last post made a slight progression today. Below it is a small 10X8 poppies piece. I have one other piece in work I will share on the next post.

Painting Inspirations

At the moment, I am back working in acrylics. I decided to practice painting by doing some copy work. Of course when I say copy work, I let myself go free and don't try to make it exactly the same. This is what I am working on Van Gogh poppies.
It is still in work so come back and see how it progresses. Last night I found I needed to stop and let it dry before moving to the next stage. I believe I was over blending. Of course Van Gogh worked in oils and I am working with acrylics.

Creating Connections

This week I was happily invited to talk at a local chapter of the embroidery guild. I was asked to come share some of my fiber art and also to show what I have been doing with buttons in my encaustic work. Thankfully we had no rain and it was a lovely night to go and share my work. I am always a little taken back when I have to talk about myself and my art, but they seemed to enjoy it. Today I went to Prattville and worked at the gallery. Currently we have the children's art show going on. Friday's are typically slow there. I am not sure when they did it but they have removed the Cahaba Tree. So glad I got this photo of it last year.
